Pre Operative Instructions
Your surgery has been scheduled, and following these pre-operative instructions will help ensure a safe and smooth experience.
- Medical Clearance & Testing:
- Complete all labs, imaging, and clearances requested by your surgeon or primary care physician.
- These may include bloodwork, EKG, chest X-ray, or medical clearance notes depending on your age and health.
- Patients should be seen 2 weeks prior to surgery for a pre-op visit.
2. Medication Instructions:
- You will be advised on which medications to continue or stop before surgery.
- Common medications to stop include blood thinners (aspirin, Plavix, Coumadin), anti-inflammatories (ibuprofen, naproxen), GLP-1 medications (ozempic), and certain supplements (fish oil, turmeric, Vitamin E).
- Medications should be suspended 7 days prior to surgery.
- If you're unsure, contact our office or your prescribing physician.
3. Fasting Guidelines:
- Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before surgery unless instructed otherwise.
- This includes water, gum, mints, and coffee.
4. Hygiene & Personal Care:
- Shower the night before surgery using antibacterial soap (e.g., Hibiclens). Do not use lotions, powders, or deodorants afterward.
- Remove all makeup, nail polish, jewelry, and piercings.
5. Transportation & What to Bring:
- Arrange for a responsible adult to accompany you and drive you home.
- Bring your ID, insurance card, list of current medications, and any required imaging or paperwork.
